What does the organisation do?
The University of Hull is a flourishing academic community, with world-class teaching, pioneering research, and a vision to explore, create and communicate knowledge to enhance regional, national and global communities.
What is the opportunity?
The Council of the University of Hull is the governing body and is responsible for the University’s strategic direction. It is seeking to appoint two lay members. The Council comprises 23 members, more than half of whom are lay members drawn from a wide variety of private and public sector organisations. The role of a lay member is similar to that of the non-executive director of a company. It is voluntary and unpaid; expenses may be claimed. Council members meet four times a year at the University, attend the annual away day and serve on Council committees.
What competencies do you need?
We are particularly seeking potential members with senior leadership experience in the area of 14-19 education, experience of IT systems at board room level, or of enterprise (expertise in new business). You will have an interest in current developments in Higher Education, an ability to take an independent and objective view and a willingness to contribute fully to discussion on all aspects of the work of the University.
How do you apply or get more information?
Information packs and application forms are available from Mrs FJ Owen, Quality Director, University Registrar and Secretary, University of Hull, Cottingham Road, Hull, HU6 7RX. e-mail: d.j.tovey@hull.ac.uk tel: (01482) 466544 www.hull.ac.uk/council
