What does the organisation do? Aspire Foundation is a small ambitious charity that specialises in supporting and developing social enterprises that offer employment and training opportunities for people moving out of homelessness and disadvantage. We manage funding and support social enterprises, develop and launch new ventures, and identify and share good practice. Our long term ambition is to identify and develop social enterprises that can go to scale and touch the lives of 1000s of people. We're supported by the CLG, DWP and Big Lottery.
What is the opportunity? It's a great opportunity for new trustees to join our board to deliver a successful period of growth and development. We've been earmarked over £700k grant contracts for 2010/11 and are focusing on working with housing associations in the London area. This means we'll be supporting a network over social enterprises, managing contracts and seeking to launch new ventures with partners.
What competencies do you need? We're looking for trustees with backgrounds in the following: Senior management experience Ability to work successfully in a team with a balance between private, public and third sectors - as well as one from the following specific areas - (i) Funding and contract management (public or third sectors) (ii) Small business growth and development (iii) Procurement and regeneration particularly in housing sector (iv) Governance (v) Financial management
How do you apply or get more information? Email owen@aspire-foundation.com or ksutton@fellowsassociates.com
Is there anything else you should know? Ability to ensure a basic level of time commitment is a key factor - approximately half a day a month (4-5 hours) is a good estimate. Trustees meet every two months formally with some conference calls and emails/papers in between. Speak to our current board or director for more details.
