What struck you most about the programme?
Our thinking was challenged and stretched by the programme. Taking part with such a broad range of people on the course itself was exciting. Getting insights from people in radically different situations was invaluable.
What was the highlight of the programme for you?
I really wanted to get under the skin of London, as it is such a complex, diverse and continually changing city. The course provided opportunities we would not normally have the chance to experience. We broadened our knowledge through spending time with a range of successful leaders including Hackney Police Force, city planners, members of the House of Lords, Community leaders and senior managers in Commercial organisations. Seeing their problems and priorities gave us a huge range of perspectives.
Can you give an example of a measurable benefit to your organisation?
I was particularly struck by the number of leaders who emphasised the importance of being true to your values whilst leading and managing, which endorsed what is already so important to the Red Cross.
Can you give an example of a measurable benefit to your community?
We are expanding our work with refugees and asylum seekers, and I feel better able to understand the context and where appropriate influence other agencies working in this field.
Can you give an example of something you do differently as a result of the programme?
I have a much wider sense of London and I feel more confident in extending my authority beyond my immediate sphere.
What impact did the programme have for your personality?
As a strategic leader, TheKNOW has definitely helped me improve the impact of the work of the British Red Cross. Personally, I have been inspired by a raft of new approaches which gave me the chance to learn from people leading in different contexts.
