The Common Purpose 360 Day
"We can't solve problems by using
the same of kind thinking we used when we created them."
Albert Einstein
The 360 Day is an invitation on 10 October each year to anyone,
across the world, to do one thing, big or small, to challenge your
perception of the world.
What's the first step?
We all have a unique way we look at the world, but does our
viewpoint restrict our belief in our ability to make a
difference?
Common Purpose encourages you to take responsibility for leading
change in your organisation or in the wider society. But the first
step is to make a personal change by challenging the way
you look at the world.
On 10 October we invite you to take
time out of your day to do one thing, big or small, to challenge
your perception of the way things are.
We would love to hear what you are planning to do. After
10 October, come back to the 360 website to share how it went, and
what you learnt!
Share your action!
Take the first step - share your action
here on the 360 website!
Or you can email your action to us at info@commonpurpose360.org
What could I do?
Read a book, article, newspaper website or blog - one
that you've never considered picking up before
Take part in an
event - something that's not related to your
profession or area of expertise
Watch a
video - find out what videos have inspired leaders to
do something different
Try a 360 Day
practice - simple exercises to challenge your
thinking
Apply
for a non-executive vacancy - a role that will
challenge the way you see the world
See what people are doing this year - perhaps you'll
find some inspiration of your own
Or here's some other examples of what people have done in the
past:
• "I normally drive to
work, but I am going to use public transport"
• "I will be going to the Full Sutton prison to work with some of
the inmates."
• "On 10 October I am going down to read a completely different
newspaper."
• "I plan to do my weekly shopping in an area that I don't
know."
Or you could:

• Ask 3 people who live outside your area what their
impressions are of it
• Meet someone who is actively campaigning or
fighting for a change in your business or community
• Take yourself out for a cup of coffee/tea and
reflect on your personal brand.
Still looking for inspiration? Here's some more ideas...
Why get involved?
The global recession can make us feel insecure, more reliant upon
people who see things in a similar way. Are you looking beyond the
familiar for new ideas? How often do you find yourself in a
different environment and what do you learn from it?
Your experience could help you find a
new insight into or solution to a problem you face. You may find
some help and expertise from someone, somewhere or something that
you didn't expect. Even something small could be of significant
value to you.
There is very real value in finding
learning in unexpected places. Read this story from the Washington
Post about famous classical violinist Joshua Bell, who
spent a morning busking on the Washington D.C. Metro, for an
inspirational example.
